The province says publicly releasing a report on the long-term potential of Churchill Falls assets would 'would weaken government’s ability to secure maximum benefits' from any future development.

following a recommendation from the Muskrat Falls public inquiry, the panel was tasked with mapping potential paths forward for Churchill Falls assets when the current power contract with Hydro-Quebec, signed in 1969, expires in 2041.

The panel is made up of industry experts and representatives from the Innu Nation, Nunatsiavut Government and NunatuKavut Community Council. The provincial government said it has a strong interest in maximizing the economic potential of the Churchill River, including the existing plant at the Upper Churchill , Gull Island , potential upgrades at the power house at Upper Churchill and any opportunities related to Muskrat Falls .
