Mozambique faces a political crisis following the Constitutional Council's validation of Daniel Chapo's victory in the October 9th election. Opposition leader Venancio Mondlane rejects the results, alleging rigging, sparking widespread protests.

Two it validates the results of the legislative elections of October 9th, 2024.”Fresh protests have erupted after the Constitutional Council confirmed Daniel Chapo’s victory. ‘Mozambicans, before I express my gratitude for the trust that the Mozambican people have placed in me, allow me, on my own behalf and on behalf of my family, to express my deepest sympathy to the families who lost their loved ones during this period of violent demonstrations. I would like to convey my sentiments and condolences to the bereaved families,’ says Chapo. Some observers say the election was not free and fair. The post-election period has seen the biggest protests against FRELIMO in Mozambique’s history. In South Africa, the African National Congress (ANC), which enjoys close ties with FRELIMO, has welcomed the proclamation. The United States says those responsible for the violation of human rights and excessive use of force by security forces, must be held accountable
