Kaizer Chiefs Sporting Director, Motaung Jr., has denied reports that the club directly contacted Asanele Velebayi's parents to secure a move for the winger during the recent transfer window.

Earlier this month, the Chiefs Sporting Director outright refuted reports that the club had directly contacted Asanele Velebayi ’s parents to engineer a move for the winger. Velebayi, still only 21, was the name on everyone’s lips during the recent winter transfer window. Spurs CEO Ari Efstathiou valued the player around R12 million, while Amakhosi’s reported offer was closer to R5 million.

“The controversy over Manchester United’s signing of the 16-year-old French midfielder Paul Pogba has taken a fresh twist, amid claims that the player’s parents were given €100,000 each, and a house, to bring him to Old Trafford.”"We never spoke to the player and we never spoke to the player's parents," Chiefs sporting director told Radio 2000.Fast forward a few weeks and Velebayi’s agent Lance Davids has weighed in on the player’s immediate future.

“Of course when the next window comes up in the next three, or four months, we will try our best. Of course, if Chiefs are interested like I said, I hope the player will be the same value, even more, but I hope the deal can happen because he’s a fantastic player,” Davids said on Metro FM Sports.
