Breaking: Mitch Marner breaks Leafs all-time record for longest point streak at 19 games
after scoring short-handed in the second period in Tampa Bay and extending the record streak, which started on Oct. 27 in San Jose.
When Marner tied the record at 18 on home ice Wednesday, he shared the moment with his family and teammates. He also received text messages from Sittler and Olcyzk before turning his focus to Saturday. “It was cool having those two legends reach out and congratulate me,” he said Friday. “If you would have told me growing up that this would happen, I don’t think I would have believed you.”
Marner’s chance to extend the streak to 20 comes Tuesday in Dallas. The NHL’s longest streak belongs to Wayne Gretzky, who recorded a point in 51 straight games with the Oilers during the 1983-84 season.
