Sentencing will take place tomorrow
A court has heard that one of Michael Anton O'Connor's killers taunted his family by saying "at least I'm still alive" as those guilty of the Nottingham man's murder are sentenced. A hearing at Nottingham Crown Court on Tuesday began the process of sentencing nine people found guilty of Mr O'Connor's murder in The Meadows on November 10, 2021.
As the sentencing of all those found guilty of the murder begins, Nottingham Crown Court has now heard how one of them taunted Mr O'Connor's family in court. Adrian Langdale, prosecuting, said Paula Usherwood, 39, of Central Avenue in Beeston, engaged in "repeatedly disruptive behaviour" during the trial.
The court then heard one of the others found guilty of murder, 41-year-old Joseph Boscomb, of Rostherne Avenue in Manchester, was also disruptive during the case. Mr Langdale said Boscomb engaged in "repeated disruptive behaviour... including incidents in the cell which delayed the trial." He later added: "This murder, rather than being a random act, was instead the culmination of a drugs war." Describing the situation that Mr O'Connor entered on the night of his death, Mr Langdale said: "Unbeknown to him, instead of a meeting to calm tensions, a carefully planned and murderous ambush awaited him."
