Many outlets are reporting that a 'mini' heatwave is on its way
Some outlets suggest there could be temperatures as high as 30C in the coming weeks, and many people are keen for some sunshine and warmth after what has felt like a very long winter. While there is no definition for a "mini" heatwave, the Met Office has specific criteria for a heatwave in general.
The Met Office only gives regional forecasts for the coming seven days, and there is no chance we'll see heatwave temperatures this week. However, while its predictions were for highs of 17C this week, Thursday's forecast has now changed, with the mercury expected to rise to 19C instead. From Monday, May 6, "all areas are likely to see a mixture of showery periods or spells of rain, though generally drier conditions", and temperatures "should remain close to or a little above normal for early May".
"The chance of below or above average temperatures is fairly balanced overall, but it is worth noting that average temperatures themselves rise by around 1C per week at this time of year."
