Liverpool are pushing to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi. The Reds have earmarked the 25-year-old as the potential first signing for new head coach Arne Slot. Doubt has been cast over a potential switch, however, with the La Liga side launching an attempt to persuade the midfielder to remain at his boyhood club in San Sebastien .
' The new Reds head coach has remained calm throughout pre-season as he afforded youngsters, fringe players and current first-team players the opportunity to stake their claim for a place in his first Premier League squad. Slot admitted at the end of the American stretch of their pre-season tour that it is not 'so easy' to find a target that is the right fit for the club. He said: 'I am focused on the tour, how we played, what we need to improve and what we did well.
