Two months after Queensland cities and towns were devastated by floods, the Premier has warned of more “damaging” downpours to come, with record falls forecast across the state.Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the man was treated for hypothermia in hospital after he was pulled from floodwater.Kirby, north-west of Winton, received 97 millimetres overnight.
Ms Palaszczuk said potential bands of intense rainfall, particularly in coastal areas between Ingham and Yeppoon on Wednesday, could lead to life-threatening flash flooding.“The SES is already mobilising volunteers throughout the state and swiftwater rescue crews are on standby to attend to any emerging threats,” she said.
Police urged the community against complacency after people lost their lives earlier this year from hazardous conditions on roadways. “Members of the public are urged to avoid roads, creeks and bridges likely to be impacted by rapidly rising water, storm debris and flood damage.
