A man in a wheelchair suffered serious injuries and had to be airlifted to Vancouver for treatment when he was hit by a pickup truck in Nanaimo on Wednesday evening.
The victim, who is in his early 60s, was hit near the intersection of Railway Avenue and Fifth Street about 8 p.m. by an an older-model Ford Ranger that had just driven up the crest of a hill on Fifth, said Nanaimo RCMP. The man was travelling adjacent to the railway tracks that cross Fifth and was not in a marked crosswalk, police said.Alcohol and speed have been ruled out as factors.Call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 with any information about the crash.
