The dark-colored SUV that hit the man did not stop, police said, and continued driving southwest on Ferguson. The man, who was thrown on the sidewalk by the impact, was pronounced dead there. Officials did not release his identity. Police initially reported the incident as a shooting but said they later determined the man had not been shot..
