The 34-year-old driver has not been charged, according to Union police.
Hanna Syed, of Jackson Heights, Queens, New York, was hit by a southbound vehicle on North Avenue around 5:30 p.m.,said Tuesday. She was brought to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later.
The driver, a 34-year-old Newark man, stopped and has not been charged. The investigation is ongoing. Traffic was detoured for about three hours while police investigated. Syed worked as a physician assistant at Kean and was a graduate student, according to her LinkedIn.com profile. The spring semester began at Kean with mainly remote classes.
