A man died in a fire that destroyed a double-storey residential building and multiple shacks in Comet in the early hours of September 13.
The charred remains were found under the rubble after emergency services responded to the fire that broke out at one of the former mine houses known as New Married Quarters in Comet. When firefighters arrived they found that the double-storey building connected to four adjacent homes and multiple shacks in the backyard was engulfed in flames, with fire spreading to the other parts of the property due to it being fanned by strong winds.
