Zimbabwean national, Bongani Dube, limped into the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on Thursday, where he appeared on charges of kidnapping and extortion. Thiy-nine-year-old Dube claims police assaulted him, injuring his left hip when they detained him on Monday. Dube was arrested by members of the anti-kidnapping task team on Monday in connection with the kidnapping of a Portuguese butchery owner in Roodepoort last week.The victim was abducted outside his business in Florida and held hostage for a week, while his kidnappers demanded a ransom of R10 million.understands that Dube was nabbed by police in Hillbrow and pointed out a house in Snake Park, Soweto, where the victim was found handcuffed and rescued on Monday evening.
Dube was arrested and formally charged with kidnapping, extortion, robbery with aggravating circumstance and contravention of the immigration act on Tuesday.
