Knowing that he's destined to face his father Darth Vader as seen in Return of the Jedi, Luke has been doing all he can to become a Jedi Knight. However, his ongoing quest for knowledge and more training in the canonical comics may lead him down a darker path.
As seen in Marvel Comics' new solicitations for January, Charles Soule and Steven Cummings' Star Wars #42 looks to be focused on Luke's desire to be as prepared as possible to face his father in the imminent future. Set between Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, Luke has been looking for everything and anything that can help him become a Jedi. Now, this will seemingly include the red Sith kyber Luke recently acquired in earlier issues.
Throughout this transitional era between Episode V and VI, Luke has been desperate to learn more about the Jedi, studying from ancient texts to continue his training on his own while still fighting alongside the Rebel Alliance. However, this new synopsis suggests that Luke's desperation will put him directly in the path of another Sith, an exciting new moment in the Star Wars canon that will likely involve the new red kyber in Luke's possession.
Will Luke Access The Power Of Sith Kyber? In Star Wars #35, Luke failed to heal a red kyber crystal bled by a Sith Lord. However, the attempt involved a vision where he entered the hall of a past Sith Lord, seemingly a dark spirit held within the crystal itself. Based on Star Wars #42's cover, it does look as though Luke will face her once more and may even learn how to combat the Sith through this upcoming experience.
