Luke Skywalker has a new connection to the Sith. Constructing his green 'saber, Luke just took possession of a red kyber crystal - one filled with the hateful memories of an ancient Sith. Can he heal it, and where will it end up in canon?
Luke Skywalker is known in the Star Wars galaxy as perhaps the greatest Jedi who ever lived–or, at least the most impactful. Luke was able to do the impossible: redeem Darth Vader. Not only that, but he’s held up as the one who single-handedly brought down the Empire, and is looked up to by even the highest-ranking New Republic leaders in the galaxy.

Luke Skywalker Gets a Red Kyber Crystal - So Where Is It? In Star Wars #35 by Charles Soule and Madibek Musabekov, Luke Skywalker is in the home of a kyber expert named Dr. Cuata. Luke tracked this person down after his yellow lightsaber was crushed in the hand of a Killdroid while Luke was trapped in No-Space. Dr.
Not only did Luke Skywalker fail to purify the red kyber crystal, but upon trying, he psychically met with its previous Sith owner. When Luke tried to heal the crystal, this Sith and their acolytes–who bore the symbol of the Sith Eternal–told Luke that they didn’t want to be healed, and instead tried to corrupt Luke himself. Clearly, this is a dark and powerful presence, with the potential to influence those ready to accept the dark side–which could be a problem.
While the future of this kyber crystal is as uncertain as the prospect of Rey inheriting it, it is a definite possibility, as nothing good can come of lingering too close to such a concentrated point of dark side energy. But, that’s the position Luke Skywalker now finds himself in, as he gets a new connection to the Sith with this red kyber crystal, and only time will tell what the fallout of this connection may be in Star Wars' future.
