Losing two stars tough for Calgary, but not a trend Flames
It’s also not something Calgary Flames fans have felt a lot of over the years, which makes the chatter about the city not being a place that can attract or retain star talent a little bit strange.
Last summer, the Flames wanted to add some high-end, proven talent at forward. No problem, GM Brad Treliving was able to beat out other suitors and land two-time Stanley Cup-champion Blake Coleman in free-agency. The point here, ultimately, is that recent history suggests Calgary is actually a perfectly attractive destination for professional hockey players.
There’s no use in downplaying the disappointment. It’s real, and it probably hurts a lot to be a Flames fan right now.
