Police introduced a Dispersal Order at 2.55pm for Liverpool city centre after clashes between opposing groups.
People dashed to safety as a far-right demonstration in Liverpool escalated today. St George's Plateau was filled with hundreds of anti-fascist counter-protesters at around 1pm, ahead of the 'Save our Kids' march scheduled for 2pm at Pier Head.
At Pier Head today, a police cordon was formed to keep the separate groups of protestors apart. Near the Cunard Building and in front of the Liver Building, a group chanted "stop the boats", countered by anti-fascist voices that had set out from St George's Hall, reports the Liverpool Echo. Top news stories today Police dogs were also deployed to diffuse tensions between the groups. Amidst the disorder, an officer's motorbike was left deserted on the road as The Strand was locked down to traffic.
