The Limpopo health department is working to resolve issues with malfunctioning ablution facilities at Kgapane Hospital after a video of the deplorable state of a toilet in the outpatient department went viral. Department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana acknowledged that blockages and lack of water were causing the flushing problems. He also stated that the department is working with water authorities to address water challenges caused by illegal connections and perforation of the main water line by community members.

This comes after a video went viral on social media showing the deplorable state of the toilet in the hospital’s outpatient department Department spokesperson Neil Shikwambana has acknowledged that the toilets were not flushing due to blockages and lack of water.“Some of the infrastructure in the hospital is indeed in an imperfect condition. Because some of the buildings are actually old. Having said that, we want to indicate that we are open to all sorts of criticism.
Furthermore, Shikwambana says that the department is working closely with water authorities to resolve water challenges at the Kgapane hospital. “Move over the issue with a shortage of water In some of the toilet systems, we need to indicate that we are working hard with the water service authority to correct and resolve the illegal connections and the perforation of the main line to the hospital by community members. That is a long-standing issue. Because that is the challenge that results in low pressure of water in the hospital and sometimes actually dire shortages of water in that facility.
