It was more generous than any other recent public service contract, much more generous than the national contract average of 1.8%, but on Wednesday — as Walton announced a strike on Monday morning if there wasn’t a deal — she said this wasn’t good enough. Walton was successful in generating public sympathy for her workers before the first strike by portraying them as the lowest paid education workers in the province; it’s unlikely that those workers wanted to walk the picket line with no pay just before Christmas.Article content

“We brought forth a deal that every party leaves the table with something that they wanted to advance, and the biggest beneficiary of this tentative agreement are our kids,” Lecce said.
