In a significant move to help Capetonians address mounting traffic fines, the City has launched a public participation initiative.

“In some cases, we’ve had to play hardball, particularly where motorists have reams of outstanding warrants and no intention of paying,” Smith said. “The Safety & Security Portfolio Committee welcomes the improvement,” said the Chairperson, Councillor Mzwakhe Nqavashe.“I also want to thank those members of the public who are taking accountability for their actions by settling their fines.”

Motorists with outstanding fines/warrants will also have an Admin Mark attached to their profile on the Natis system. This means they are unable to renew vehicle licences or register a vehicle until their fines/warrants have been finalised. When all was said and done – and won – Team South Africa finished in a tie for 44th place in the official Paris Olympics 2024 medal table.
