Team South Africa’s men’s 4x400m relay team were handed a lifeline after finishing last in their semi-final at the Paris Olympics on Friday.The quartet of Gardeo Isaacs, Zakhiti Nene, Antonie Nortje and Lythe Pillay finished eighth in their heat in 3:03.19 and didn’t qualify for the final.

Nortje ran into trouble at the changeover when he collided with the Spanish runner in front of him and fell.were disqualified and Team South Africa were somewhat puzzlingly promoted to the final by the referee, despite not finishing with the next fastest time.No fault – nor disqualification – was handed out to any other team involved in Nortje’s fall.
