Monrovia — The Bishop of the United Methodist Church in Liberia , Samuel J. Quire Jr., has expressed concern over Methodist churches that are considering leaving the denomination, describing their actions as a"lost identity."

"These churches have forgotten their identity due to misinformation and disinformation, particularly regarding the issue of same-sex marriage in the church," Bishop Quire said. He stressed that no local congregation, knowingly or unknowingly, can depart from the United Methodist Church without facing consequences.

He added that disciplinary measures will be taken against any church involved in such actions after a thorough investigation, in accordance with the Book of Discipline.Bishop Quire's remarks come amid ongoing debates within the global Methodist community, stemming from the 2022 General Conference in the United States, where same-sex marriage was a key issue.
