DRIVEN | Lexus' new fifth-gen RX SUV showcases 'next chapter' design and tech

The RX's journey started in 1998 when Japanese automaker Lexus introduced the SUV to the world, nine years after the brand came into existence. Since then, the model has come into its own, and the latest fifth-generation model is the most sophisticated so far. It also blazed the path for luxury SUVs, especially for Lexus.

Lexus South Africa says that, along with its new NX model, which was also recently launched, the RX will help build the"Next Chapter" for the brand. The latest design language for the RX includes a new 'spindle body', while inspiration comes from the rich design heritage to produce a car that is instantly recognisable. It has a more dynamic, elegant and confident character this time.

A new multi-link setup has been engineered for better lateral stability and handling higher levels of torque at the rear. Improved component rigidity has contributed to responsive steering and makes the car always feel quite solid on the road. Even when driving on uneven surfaces, the Adaptive Variable Suspension provides independent damping control at each wheel, contributing to a more comfortable ride, stability and higher damping force when turning.
