I am the volunteer who hands out chocolate kisses as a small thanks to employees. Everyone there deserves thanks, every day.Re: “Words to live by — Trailblazer Jerry LeVias needed inspiration. King provided it,” Sunday news story. LeVias could have easily chosen from over 100 schools where he could have played. We were still a segregated society in 1965. I was too young to see my other two favorite Mustangs, Doak Walker and Don Meredith, play. However, I was old enough to watch Jerry LeVias disrupt defenses by outrunning and outcatching everyone else on the field.

In response to his fight against vaccine mandates, a spokesman for him said, “Senator Cruz has fought to keep health care decisions between individuals and their doctors, and out of the hands of government bureaucrats.” What? Does anyone else see this as hypocrisy at its highest level?, for my laugh for the day if it wasn’t so disheartening to hear these kinds of things from people who keep getting re-elected in Texas.

If Phelan really cared about the will of the electorate, he would push for an initiative process. Maybe then we could make actual progress on issues that Texans agree on but the Legislature drags its feet on like, I don’t know, Medicaid expansion, gun reform and gerrymandering?Re: “Defunding IRS wrong move,” by Elizabeth C. Knoop, Monday Letters.
