Joan Stuart Richmond HillRe “Transgender cyclist’s win prompts category changes at events” : Although it is good that cisgender female cyclists are allowed to compete in their own category, dividing the prize money equally three ways among female, male and open categories may unfairly dilute the money available in the traditional categories. There may be far fewer participants in the open category.

If there are only a handful of athletes in that category, it may give them an unfair chance of winning equal prize money. If the cycling events retain three categories, the prize money should be adjusted in the smallest category. For example, if there are only 25% as many participants in the open category as in the smaller of the other two categories, they should be entitled to only 25% as much prize money. Ideally, professional events should have only two categories, female and open.
