Readers are discouraged about the lack of gun control; aren’t happy about some Dallas bonds; agree about having uncomfortable conversations; and discuss how Muslims honor mothers.
Give me a break. This money is a drop in the bucket compared to what we really need in Dallas. You wrote that the proposition for homelessness “ballooned” by $10 million, when parks is getting $345 million? Do you know how many individual parks are each getting $10 million or more?The $19 million to homelessness doesn’t even complete the buildout of the properties the city already owns like the Miramar Hotel and 2929 Hampton. It’s barely even one project.
The response of the University of Texas at Dallas administration and campus/community law enforcement on May 1 was appropriate and reflective of the need to champion free speech while protecting the well-being of all. It also serves as a reminder that while popular culture and media is full of blunt “absolutes,” we have the power to take a more nuanced approach.
The status of a mother in Islam is elevated to a level of utmost respect and reverence, as exemplified by the saying of the Prophet Muhammad : “Heaven lies under the feet of your mother.”
