Readers are disappointed about the problems at the Dallas County jail; desire practical solutions to immigration; worry about changes in Mexican politics; and are glad to see a new stadium voted down.Re: “County Jail Is Filling for Wrong Reason — People who should be free are incarcerated because we can’t get the software right,” Sunday editorial.This editorial overlooks the primary reason that all county jails are overcrowded, and that is the inability of the poor to make bail.
If something like this happened in the corporate sector, exposing a company to litigation that could result in millions of dollars in damages, heads would definitely roll. We have millions of people from Mexico and other countries who live with us, work with and for us, raise families and contribute to the success of our way of life. We should never, ever, threaten them with expulsion. If you live here, work here and pay taxes here, it can’t be called “deportation.”
