Readers don’t agree with defuding Girls Inc.; suggest more way to make cities greener; question if electric rates are fair; and enjoyed the story on Jack’s French Frys.

Dallas and the whole North Texas area must implement strategies that include: 1. increasing tree and vegetative cover along streets, in parking lots and around buildings; 2. adding green roofs or cool reflective roofs to buildings; 3. using cool pavements; 4. using permeable pavements ; and 5. Adding cool covered shelters at bus and train stops.

Let’s keep the discussion about more generators held in reserve creating an illusion of power shortage simple. The increased reliance on government-subsidized solar and wind will mean that more generating plants required for reliability will need to be held in reserve. But is the ERCOT plan too expensive, and do we have a shortage or not? Those are good questions.

Large users of electricity, as represented by the Texas Association of Manufacturers, have benefited from the deregulated market, but let’s not forget that the less they pay for reliability, the more that smaller residential and business owners have to pay, regardless of what the cost of reliability is or should be.
