Readers praise the Prairie View A&M band, honor military and other service wives; and appreciate the kindness of strangers.
The Prairie View A&M marching band warms up before their halftime performance at the State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl, Sept. 30, 2023, in Dallas.The Southern Methodist University football team won 69-0 at Ford Stadium Sept. 16. But the Prairie View A&M band also can be declared the winner for the day. The band was seated way up in the northeast corner of the stadium, but when it played for the first time, the sound was huge.
I think there should be a presidential medal for the wives. We serve, believe me, and keep the home fires burning by living on a smaller income, nurturing, cooking, cleaning and helping with homework, attending church, writing letters and praying a lot! My mother did all this as well, as dad served 27 years. One of my sons served 27 years, another served four years. So I lived the Army life, I married the Army life and I birthed it.So hurrah to all you ladies who serve and served, including the ones who are widows, and especially the ones dealing with the injuries of the most recent wars. God bless you all.— To the angels of FM1382 in Cedar Hill: Although I may be older and overweight, I still like to walk on a regular basis.
