Many communities in Newfoundland saw their first settlers from Europe in the 1600s and 1700s but the majority came here in the 1800s. They came to make a better life for themselves. They were the CFAs back then. Currently, our young people are being made ashamed of our ancestors. Some at MUN have called them stupid and racist. However, our ancestors were good, decent people, despite living under the thumb of Lord Merchants and Mother Church. Nobody should be ashamed of them.
