Alex, left, and Valerie Docherty of Elmwood, P.E.I., have just donated $1 million to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation in the form of a life insurance policy, the largest such gift in the foundation’s history. - Contributedto Valerie and Alex Docherty of Elmwood, P.E.I. A former P.E.I. MLA, Valerie has dedicated her life to raising money for the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Foundation, joining the foundation’s board of directors in 2018 before chairing its Friends for Life campaign in 2021-22.
P.E.I. couple donates $1 million to Charlottetown hospital foundation in form of life insurance policyto the provincial government for closing the door on alternative mental health services. In January, Health P.E.I. told the owner of Serene View Ranch, a private post-traumatic stress therapy centre, that it would be cutting funding for almost 60 patients attending the centre and transitioning them back into the public system.
