The key question is “are there enough salmon returning to meet the spawning requirements of the river?” The answer to that question is YES, writes Rick Maddigan of St. John’s.
N.L. outfitters anticipating busy angling season this year, but DFO salmon report shows not much to cheer about- The 2023 salmon management plan has already been released. It was released back in January - same as last year.
- It is not true that resident anglers prefer to keep any salmon they catch. While there is a small, unrepresentative group of retention - only anglers, most resident anglers prefer being able to just enjoy fishing. DFO’s own stats show they release far more salmon than they retain. - You seem to buy into DFO’s conclusion that stocks are decreasing. Not true. That means the number of salmon is sustainable.
