Vehicle and pedestrian processing continues at the Lebombo Border Post in Mpumalanga, South Africa, despite intensifying protests in Mozambique stemming from disputed election results. Truck processing remains suspended, with fewer than 10 trucks awaiting clearance at the border. Truck drivers express concerns about safety and the prolonged delays.

Processing of vehicles and pedestrians passing through the Lebombo Border Post in Mpumalanga is continuing despite the intensifying protests action in Mozambique. They claim the elections were rigged in favour of the governing Frelimo Party.Processing of trucks is still suspended.

There are less than 10 trucks at the corridor of the port of entry waiting for green light to cross as instructed by employers. Some truck drivers say they’ve been stuck at the border for several days now. “I’ve been here from Monday morning up to today. I’m going to Malawi. I’ve got a truck here. I can’t say that it’s going to be safe, but we just hear that the road is open. And then we’ll hear the situation from that side. Otherwise, we’re going to be stuck there so that we can already have the papers. So, if they open, it means we’re going to just continue the journey,” says one of the drivers.

“I feel very bitter because you know in Mozambique, there’s no good situation up to now. So, we are scared to pass through there,” says another truck driver.
