This is after the learner was allegedly raped by a 30-year-old male teacher, just a little over 10 days before the commencement of the matric final exams.The accused did not look worried as he sat in the dock.The prosecution had on a number of occasions made calls for the defense to stick to questions in line with the bail application.The court also heard about the video footage from the day in question.
Free State Department of Education spokesperson Howard Ndaba says the department is hopeful that justice will prevail. “We hope that at the end justice will prevail. Because from our side as the department, we will also institute our own parallel disciplinary processes. Those processes will run parallel, but at the end of the day we want to make sure that justice is done to protect our learners at our schools, our teachers and other stakeholders. Because if there’s any atmosphere of violence, learning and teaching will not take place.
