Kyle Larson outduels Joey Logano at Martinsville.
Larson held the inside line and ultimately prevailed, eventually building a lead of over four seconds on Logano. He would go on to win, taking his second victory on a short track in three race weekends. The two wins mean that Larson is comfortably in the playoff field, so he will no longer have to worry about collecting points to stay ahead of other one-time winners in case sixteen or more drivers win a race in the first 26 races of this season.
After a day of dominance, the best of four Stewart-Haas cars would finish six seconds back in fifth. The team's day started to go off the rails when the No. 41 of Ryan Preece took a speeding penalty, then it got worse with the timing of the second-to-last caution during green flag stops. The team looked like it would have a shot to place four of its cars in the top five, but it ultimately left Martinsville with finishes of fifth, sixth, 15th, and 20th.
NASCAR's brief stretch of short track racing at Richmond, Bristol, and Martinsville is at an end, but the relentless NASCAR schedule rolls on. The Cup Series races at Talladega next weekend.
