Judge dismisses former MLA Anglin's lawsuit alleging interference in 2015 election abpoli

Anglin, the former MLA for Rimbey-Rocky Mountain House-Sundre, argued chief electoral officer Glen Resler derailed his electoral chances by interfering in his campaign and maliciously prosecuting him. But, Alberta Court of Queen’s Bench Justice Michael Lema dismissed his claim, ruling it amounted to an abuse of process while also finding no evidence of bad intent from Resler.

“Anglin faced a choice here: challenge the election for its perceived unfairness, per the controverted-election process, or let it be,” Lema wrote.Lema also dismissed an affidavit prepared by a former chief electoral officer for Anglin after the case had been heard for the same reason. He finished fourth among four candidates, behind Wildrose winner Jason Nixon, who now represents the United Conservative Party and is the province’s finance minister.
