We chat with JurassicWorldDominion's Creature Effects Supervisor John Nolan about his studio's first major project, returning to practical dinosaurs, and more:
The world is entering a new age in Jurassic World: Dominion. The epic trilogy closer finds humanity struggling to coexist with dinosaurs around the world, while the shady conglomerate Biosyn Genetics puts a plan in motion that could threaten the world.
It was quite a technically challenging job, that particular one, and off the back of that they, through the same line producer, invited us to Pinewood. I met with Colin again, and he just shook my hand and said, "So do you like dinosaurs?" and I said, "Yes," and he said, "Okay, do want to make some?" I said, "Yes," he goes, "Okay, you got the job." That's it, easiest interview ever.
That's pretty crazy turnaround time. So what would you say then was the most challenging sequence for you to help bring to life through your work? You know, thinking offhand, I really can't think of too many scenes that have Beta where I noticed that she was totally CGI. Well, you have every right to be, because you all did a phenomenal job on this film. Given that many of you had that personal connection to the original Jurassic Park, what was it like getting to help bring the Dilophosaurus, one of the more iconic of the original dinosaurs, back to the screen?
So since you mentioned seeing things on the DVD that we might not have seen originally, the Blu-ray comes with the extended edition of the film. I have yet to watch it, what all can we look forward to seeing from your side of things in the extended edition?
