Johannesburg Water plans restrictive measures to stabilise water systems
Johannesburg Water says there’s a rise in water demand and this is affecting numerous water reservoirs and towers. This follows warnings by Rand Water that municipalities should reduce water losses by a third amid dwindling storage levels.
NGO WaterCan has blamed the situation on infrastructure failure in Gauteng. Johannesburg Water says it is implementing water demand management measures to stabilise water systems. It says such measures could lead to a complete lack of water in certain suburbs especially in high-lying areas. Joburg Water spokesperson Nombuso Shabalala.
Systems that are currently being monitored include the Commando system, which comprises Brixton, Crosby, and Hursthill.
