The Algonquins of Ontario and partner Taggart have respected all the rules while preparing lands adjacent to the project for farming use.

We decided not only to clear the trees but to return the land to viable farming activity for the foreseeable future. This was a simple decision from our standpoint, one that prioritized both safety and agricultural sustainability.

But while justifiable concern is one thing, we have been deeply disheartened by the angry and aggressive response from a small, vocal minority of individuals who resist Ottawa’s urban growth, misrepresent our intentions and use Algonquins as their punching bag.Article content We have consistently followed all bylaws and requirements in decisions taken about the maintenance and future of our Tewin-adjacent land. We are not just responsible landowners; we are the original landowners. This entire region of Ontario is situated on the traditional, unceded territory of the Algonquin people. This was our land until we were driven out by white settlers.

Algonquins have been subjected to extensive, systemic discrimination and disregard for decades. We are endeavouring to assert our rightful place in our territory, yet we face efforts to curtail or question our decisions and motivations at every turn.
