From jamiljivani: Celebrating an unsung hero of the Ivy League
One of the men who paved the way for students from diverse backgrounds is Associate Dean Mike Thompson. Since 1996, Dean Mike has overseen building and dining services at Yale Law School.
Dean Mike leads a team of staff who keep the building clean, ensure people are fed and keep the school running on time. More than just his job, though, Dean Mike is also a connector between people from different walks of life. There is nobody else on campus who regularly speaks with the law school administrators, security guards, dining hall staff and students.
This weekend, Dean Mike is being recognized at Yale’s diversity homecoming event for his years of service and his impact on students.Sabria McElroy, who graduated from Yale Law in 2010, recalled what it was like for her on campus. “From my first week at Yale, when I still felt a bit overwhelmed by the elite setting and uncertain about my transition to law school, Dean Mike made me feel like I belonged,” said McElroy. “I know he provided that same sense of comfort to countless other students.
