Pointless plastic bag ban was only the beginning
One would have thought that plastic bags would have been replaced with other options given that people still need to get their merchandise home with them. Yet many large retailers simply said “to hell with it” and left consumers to fend for themselves. Others have tried to come up with solutions that are convenient for customers and friendly to the environment, only to be hampered by stringent government regulations.
Paper bags would seem to be the next logical solution, given that they’re fully recyclable and trees are most certainly a renewable resource. But this will simply not do for environmentalists who, having successfully ridded the country of the scourge of plastic, have now set their sights on paper.Article content

Studies have found that in order for cotton bags to have less of an overall environmental impact than plastic, they need to be reused at least 131 times, potentially thousands of times.
This type of impulse shopping is the lifeblood of many urban businesses, which will suffer if they can’t make it convenient for potential customers to get their goods home. After all, if the pandemic taught us anything, it’s that most everything can be purchased online. Making it even less convenient to go to the store will only serve to hasten the decline of brick-and-mortar retail.
