After months of development and construction, phase two of repairs for the cherished shore attraction, Lucy the Elephant, have begun.

Monday, March 7, 2022Drills, saws, and grinders could be heard buzzing and whirring through the ocean air on a recent weekday in Margate as Lucy the Elephant — the prized Jersey Shore attraction — undergoes a major facelift.— known as the tallest roadside attraction in the nation — is undergoing a $2 million restoration project.
But, maintaining Lucy’s beauty isn’t easy. The project currently underway, which has kept Lucy off-limits to tourists since September, includes removing the metal cladding covering the exterior which had rusted and allowed water to enter. All of the work being done to Lucy is funded by the Save Lucy Committee, Inc. as well as grants from the Preserve NJ Preservation Fund and the National Park Service.
For phase two, water infiltration was a recurring problem with the structure that needed to be addressed. As the months went on, Lucy was plagued by snow, rainfall, and other natural occurrences that led to the need for repairs.
