That’s according to the prestigious US culinary magazine, Food & Wine. Enver Duminy is the chief executive officer of Cape Town Tourism; he joins me on the programme now.

There is no meeting that happens without a cup of coffee. There is no engagement where we are even socialising without a cup of coffee. I think, again, this is the beauty of why we’ve been recognised because it’s part of the fabric and the fibre of our city. JEREMY MAGGS: So let me suggest to you then after this accolade, the ball is in Cape Town Tourism’s court now because it’ll be incumbent upon you to provide more assistance to local coffee shops and roasters to help them sustain and thrive. Do you have plans?

So as Cape Town Tourism, we will continue to promote not just Truth or the I Love Coffee Group, but even Siki’s Koffee Kafe in Khayelitsha, one of the best blenders that you’ll ever find. That’s the beauty of working with Cape Town Tourism, our role, of course, is to shine a spotlight on all the amazing experiences including coffee.

If I can give a good example, the I Love Coffee Group shows you how Fairtrade and how inclusive coffee can be. But again, it is a long way to go. It’s where we source it from, it’s critically important.
