A tow truck unloads a vehicle from the MV Holiday Island at the ferry terminal in Wood Islands on July 24. Passengers had to leave their vehicles behind July 22 after a fire forced the evacuation of the ferry. Brian McInnis • Special to The GuardianWOOD ISLANDS, P.E.I. — The MV Holiday Island is back in its berth in Wood Islands and passenger vehicles were being unloaded in the afternoon of July 24.
He also thanked all of the emergency personnel and locals who assisted in the response to safely evacuate the Holiday Island. Another concern Cormier spoke about on July 23 was passenger medications, some of which were left on the Holiday Island. Once passengers notified the company, NFL arranged with local pharmacies to replace missing prescriptions, Cormier said. To his knowledge, there hadn't been any problems with this.
“Passengers and crew took the necessary steps to prepare for the evacuation of the vessel and did so in a quick and orderly manner resulting in all persons making it safely to shore.” “At this time, there has not been any pollution observed. The owner has taken proactive mitigation steps to ensure the protection of the marine environment. Including the activation of the response organization,” said MacDonald. The ferry's crew dropped 1,400 feet of containment boom during the fire when it was at anchor. There is also boom around the vessel in port and protecting sensitive marine areas, just in case.
