From the IEC, I’m joined now by the chair, Mosotho Moepya.

MOSOTHO MOEPYA: A very important question you raise. There are two specific issues and nothing beyond that. The first area of technology that we withdrew was the harvesting of data that we used to see where voters go to vote, whether they do so in the morning, are they young people, are they women, are they men. So that we are able to service them properly. Although we had that data for the morning, we did not have it for the rest of the afternoon and into the night.

I say so because many people think that it was a major determinant of whether we are now going to free and fair election. No, it didn’t. I’ve always said, when we went through these processes, even when we were going through difficulties, I spoke to this nation, and I took you all into our confidence sincerely.

But there are many other considerations, the stability of the nation, the process of tension that parties, their supporters and candidates go through whilst they wait for the outcome of an election.
