Reporter Florence Freeman visited TJ Hughes' newly opened store on Church Street
But recently the beloved store bid farewell to its shoppers and old location to move to its new spot on Church Street on September 21. After speaking with some longtime shoppers and visiting the old store, I was intrigued to check out the new location.
The new store is spread across three floors, although it's not as spacious as the previous one. The first floor is filled with men's clothing, and cosmetics, the beauty products neatly displayed and filed along the back, almost looking colour-coordinated. It made shopping for make up a breeze. Here there was more men's and women's clothing. Although not particularly my style, I could appreciate some of the women's pieces. Especially some of the more bedazzled and sequinned pieces which I could envision every mum wearing at Christmas dinner.
But it was the third floor which surprised me most. Packed with homeware, it was the quietest floor and held the most surprises. I loved the duck feather-filled quilts and pillows, the soft duvets, and the stylish curtains that would elevate any house. It was like TK Maxx, but better. The set up was neat and everything was separated well.
