Students displaced by a fire at their rental unit on Dec. 17 remove some belongings from the semi-detached home on Dec. 22. Standing on the front lawn of their former home Vinay was visibly upset, unable to stop thinking of their eighth roommate and close friend who didn't make it out of the home; who tragically died due to the fire. The university is also providing counselling for the students and allowing the students to defer exams if they wish.

NICOLE SULLIVAN/CAPE BRETON POST - Nicole SullivanTrina MacDonald learned about the devastating fire when she saw a Facebook post from Jen Rudderham who was collecting donations of men's clothing for the students.

She set the fundraising goal at $10,000 and MacDonald hopes to raise as much of that as possible. By publication time, there was $855 raised. "This fundraiser is going to help a lot. I feel the love. I'm really very thankful to the Cape Breton citizens. I really have no words. Thank you guys. We are here for you and you are here for us. It's the community give and take policy.
