It has been reported that there is around 9 miles of congestion on approach. Drivers have been warned of 90 minute delays to their journeys.
According to the traffic monitoring site Inrix: "Car and a lorry involved at J29 A617 . Congestion to J28 Southbound is also slow due to onlookers. "Ongoing since just before 17:00 there is a broken down lorry on the other side. Diversion - via the exit and entry slip road." There is also one lane closed and queueing traffic on the M1 southbound due to a broken down lorry. Lane four of four is closed, and this is separate to the accident on the other side of the motorway.
