Chris Head of the Dartmouth Mooseheads prepares to take a swing during Nova Scotia Senior Baseball League action at the Susan McEachern Memorial Ball Park in Sydney earlier this month. The River Ryan product will play in the Baseball Canada Senior Men’s National Championship this week in Cape Breton. JEREMY FRASER/CAPE BRETON POSTSYDNEY, N.S. — Chris Head may only live six hours away from his hometown, but his next trip to Cape Breton is one he’s had circled on his calendar since 2018.
“We’re excited as a team, but I’m personally very excited,” said Head, a school teacher in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Although the 36-year-old Head doesn’t know what to expect come Saturday morning, he anticipates seeing some familiar faces at the ball park, hopefully cheering on the Mooseheads.
Dartmouth will be the Nova Scotia league representatives in the tournament after winning the league last year and are considered favourites to be playing in, at the very least, a semifinal game on Sunday. “This year’s team is pretty strong and even with our pickups, I know we’ve won a couple of silver medals at nationals, but this team looks stronger than those teams,” said Head, who will play in his 13th senior national event.Four Kentville Wildcats to play at senior baseball nationals in Sydney, N.S.“We have our eyes set on that Sunday game and that’s our goal to play in that game,” said Head. “Hopefully we can win this tournament. We have a great group of guys and we know what we can do.
