Holby City actress Laura Sadler died following a 40ft fall from a balcony, but still appeared in the show after her death in pre-recorded episodes before exit storyline was revealed
BBC series Holby City sadly came to an end in 2022 after 23 years of drama, operations, births and deaths. Over that time, the staff at the fictional hospital saw their fair share of births, deaths and life-threatening conditions.
After Laura was taken to London's Charing Cross Hospital, her mother, Sonya, kept a vigil beside her daughter throughout her last days. Her mother and other family members were with her when she died. Her death was later ruled as an accident. He told the BBC at the time: "Everybody in the cast is completely devastated and is asking the same question, 'Why her?'
Sadler's character Sandy continued to appear in pre-recorded episodes of Holby City for a while after her death as eight further Holby City episodes featuring Sadler as Sandy had already been filmed, and were aired as scheduled posthumously.
